A Warning
In the borderlands, gold flows to two kinds of men.
The craven lord buys the finest armor and sharpest blade, yet trembles when steel meets steel. His gold-wrought mail gleams bright, but his coward's heart beats weak beneath it. He thinks rich trappings will make him feared, but seasoned fighters smell his weakness like wolves scent wounded prey.
The true warrior also seeks gold, but for different purpose. He knows his strength in battle, his skill with sword and shield. Gold buys him better weapons, swifter horses, more loyal men-at-arms. His talent was forged in blood and training—gold merely sharpens what was already deadly.
When these two meet on the field, gold cannot save the coward from the warrior's wrath. The weak man's expensive sword falls from nerveless fingers, while the strong man's cheaper blade finds its mark true.
